If their backs are bare due to rooster damage - you can order chicken aprons(saddles) for them. There are a couple sellers on BYC's Buy,sell,trade forum listed under "everything else for sale." That will give them some protection from rooster spurs and allow the skin to heal and feathers to re-grow. A rooster can handle ten hens, if he has less he will overbreed and damage his hens. Unless you want to sell or incubate fertilized eggs - there is no need for a rooster. Your hens will be happy to continue laying non fertile eggs for you.
