Ok. Is it possible? I love BLR Wyandottes but LOVE the orps just a bit more!! What genetics would I need to make BLR orps? Are they already a thing? Would love any info y’all might have

It’s me again! Papa’s Poultry has BLR Orpington project birds, would be a good starting point for you anywayOk. Is it possible? I love BLR Wyandottes but LOVE the orps just a bit more!! What genetics would I need to make BLR orps? Are they already a thing? Would love any info y’all might have![]()
I’d seen those!! Any idea how I might go about improving lacing quality? What would happen on BLR x Gold laced to try and improve lacing, cross those offspring back to the BLR?It’s me again! Papa’s Poultry has BLR Orpington project birds, would be a good starting point for you anyway![]()
Jubilees have the mahogany gene correct? What if it was SC BLRW x jubilees, then chicks of those crossed back to the BLRW to get the lacing gene, then to orp again for type.. repeat a few times till you could breed the offspring with best type to develop phenotypic characteristics and keep the correct color? Of course pulling out any with the jubilee pattern to keep just the mahogany laced not the jubilee? If that makes sense any!I'd start with quality BLRW with single combs. Like if you could get SC from the Foley line and then work to cross them into an Orpington line. Not sure which variety would be best. I'd say Gold-laced, but you'll lose the mahogany gene, which is what gives the really deep bay-red color to the feather and not the icky gold. I'm not sure what crossing onto solid colors like Blue or Black would do. You'd have to play in the genetic calculator. Or perhaps @Amer or @TheMoonshiner, or @nicalandia could tell you the best way to do it.
That sounds complicated by introducing more than one pattern gene. @The Moonshiner might have an idea since I mistagged earlier.Jubilees have the mahogany gene correct?
