I have had a great BLRW hatch! Only two eggs didn't hatch.

My questions- what is good hatch down for a BLRW ?
Mine are all chipmunk, except one, and there is one that is sort of chipmunk.
Some are defined, with lighter sides, and others are darker all over, but still chipmunk.
Will any of this determine who's lacing is better?
Will any of this determine male/female?

I have 9 and only want to keep 4-5 but will I need to grow them out to see which are the best quality? and if yes, how long before I know?

Thanks

Hi! I don’t know about chick down, but most breeds, if you want to keep the best ones and sell the rest, you need to wait 6-12 months, sometimes more. There can be some faults that you can spot as they grow and sell those, but if you do it too soon, what if that fault was minor compared to what some of the others develop as they grow?

Hopefully some BLRW experts will come along and let you know how they decide about growing out Wyandottes.
