It was a two hour drive and i was really overwhelmed when i met the girl. I just took them. Didn't even inspect them didnt look them over. No way to know for certain they are true lavendar orps but i believe they are. It's important because i hope to breed them. I was hasty. I discovered feather loss immediately but just paid the girl. After getting home noticed a massive feather loss. Bad lice. I bought stuff and treated them. The two with severe feather loss actually look undernourished. They have loose droppings that smell extremely foul...not normal...rusty brown almost diahreah. My birds dont smell like that. Hoping good chick starter feed will help. Wondering if i should treat with medicine. They eat so much its concerning. I want to get them in good health. So yes my regret is not waiting for chick season and getting good healthy chicks. You live and you learn. If anyone knows what to do about the foul smelling loose redbrown droppings please share. Thank you.Do you want to share your concerns and regrets?
Sorry for your troubles. Make sure you keep the new birds separate from your existing birds for a month if possible. You should use permethrin liquid or powder form to treat the birds and change all bedding. Repeat treatment in one week. Make sure the lice/mites are gone before you integrate into your flock. Easiest to see them around the vents and under wings. Give them a good quality chick starter/grower and they should do well. The smelly poop can be from whatever food they were getting. Many threads here on the forum with specific info on all your concerns. These birds sound like they are lucky you bought them.It was a two hour drive and i was really overwhelmed when i met the girl.
