Theres Blue Rock eggs on Egg.bid ( I know I know I cant help looking). Ive never heard of this type bird. Does anyone have any info or pics on this breed?
EweSheep has them, I believe. Jim Cox in West VA who also breeds Blue Orpingtons has the Blue Rocks. He emailed me pics once, but I'd have to look for them.
Here are the two pics he emailed to me, said he got them from a breeder some of us are familiar with named Gordie in Wisconsin, I believe. Jim said they are smaller than the Orpingtons:
These are the Blue Rocks from Gordie I hatched last year. They are certainly beautiful but a little smaller than the Orps. I am going to cross one of this gal to my Blue Orp roo and her offsprings will be three quarter Blue Orpingtons.
As far as I know, Gordie uses Blue Orps and White Rocks in the background and right now he may have the F3 and F4 generation. Once in a while the Blue Rock will have a true Blue Orp type than a Rock type like my blue gal does here, she looks more Blue Orps....I would not be disappointed if Gordie did slip in some Blue Orp hatching eggs in the lot that I hatched! I had some blues, splash and black chicks and they are all goreous!
Please do give them a try....it might be a great eye candy to have!
