Blue x Black or Blue x Blue?

I can't wait to see your photos! I am envious of anyone with a splash...I am desperate to hatch one, but not at the cost of breeding my blue female that came out with a wry tail. She is only a layer and will never be in my breeding flock (shame..)

I'm holding off on the breeding of my blue male, I want to make sure he has what I'm after before wasting my time, money and feed on a bird that I'm just gonna eat later down the road. The blue male from the blue x blue breeding is going to be dinner...just disgusts me that I raised him to turn brown. GAH.

I'm not sure if it's just coincidence, but the black male who is the full brother to the blue male does seem to lack in green sheen. But again, that may be from me not seeing him in sunlight. I can't wait to get photos to compare them against each other.

I know Red Leakage is going to be something I have to keep my eye out for. Sounds like your brown MAYBE Red leakage. Now just cause he is showing it now, does not mean after a molt they may loose ALL them brown/red feathers. We both have a friend who experienced that with one of her Blue Orps. He had been blue, and outta now where he started developing Red on his eye brows. After he molted, no more Red leakege. Don't mean it might not raise it's nasty Red feathers out again. BUT, MAYBE still be worth breeding. My BUS babies will have that in them for a few generations. Till I thoroughly correct that problem.

Unfortunately, this is not just showing up in his hackles. It's showing up in hackles, saddle and sickle feathers. The entire top-part of the bird is brown instead of blue/black. It's not just his color that throws me off of him. He has the "break" in his back. Makes him look like a production bred bird instead of the nice smooth U-shape that I'm after. His tail is also more narrow than what I'm after. Just a collaboration of poor things happening in him. The other blue male is very nice if I do say so myself. He could use some more height, but since he was a winter chick, I'm not too surprised.

If this male had something going for him, I'd probably keep him just to see, but since there's several other issues, he will be great for the soup pot.

Please forgive me for asking, but what is BUS (because I'm picturing a very large bird the size of a bus). Perhaps some photos??

You hit the nail on the head. Unless this bird has something that you can't get anywhere or recreate, whack em.
He sounds like this little fella. He is a BUS baby Blue. Figures his brother who appears to becoming a nice Blue Splash has a side sprig off his comb. We will keep punchin em out till we get a few to play with
BUS is a BUS. He is now rite near 12 lbs. A true tank. He has Doug Akers Buff Orp blood. Which means he can throw a very fluffy Orp like babies. I am finding out he does well when taken to Blacks, and we'll see what happens with his Blue Splash. He carries a lacing gene, which IF I feel lucky and take him to lets say Julie's Blue Orp hen they should make very nicely laced baby Blues IF I am so lucky.
