However he is a year old Sally my nh red is 4 years old and standard size
She is the only one of my 13 chickens that are of age
Bob follows here everywhere and well yes mates or at least tries to
And he is just tearing her up
I know I can get a saddle thing but the back of hwe head is almost bald
Any suggestions?

The culprit

And poor Sally
Well I say poor Sally but she is one lady that holds her own

Remove him and keep him penned separately for a few months until his hormones settle down more.
Thank you I was wondering if that is what I should do.
He does his job wonderfully at taking care of the flock
Sally I already know will be a little lost without him right there
He got on the otherside of the pen one day and he walked all around the outside of the fence and Sally on the inside following him

Well as long as it's only feathers lost you can leave them be if the look doesn't bother you, and there's no skin damage. Sally will get new feathers in a few months.

How long until your other chickens are old enough to share the tiny work load with Sally?
I have 6 young ladies different ages waiting to become old enough
Sheila my Light Brahma and Maizie my golden laced wyandotte are 4 months old
Pixie and Daphne my Bantam silk and golden laced polish are 3 months
Alice and Lucy my Silkies are 2 months
Heidi my Golden laced is almost 2 months
Gracie and Piper my Dark Brahma and Barred rock are 1 week.

Truthfully this bothers people more than it bothers hens. And hens really start to get ragged looking just before they head into molt. Some hens will look worse than others.

If you want to split them up, there is nothing wrong with that, but truthfully, she will not look better until she molts and removing him won't change that. Watch her around him, if she is hiding, not active, not curious about the world around her, losing weight well then you need to do something.

If she is active, getting her fair share of treats, moving confidently around well you really don't have to do anything.
