Bobtail coloration, or just odd coloring?

Impossible.
I agree 100% if it's based on the regular c/c recessive white we have come to know. But it could be an allelic mutation, There are two ways to test that.

Go thru the genetic testing procedure or.. Do a test mating with known recessive white birds. The F1s will likely be all white(extrapolating from the known dominance order on that c allele) the F1s should be c/c^bt the c^bt is an interim symbol nomenclature to describe the bobtail mutation as a recessive allelic mutation of the recessive white gene

These are the known and proposed c allelic mutations.

C+ = Wildtype non-recessive white
c = Tyrosinase recessive white
c^bt = Bobtail
c^op = Opal
c^re = Red Eyes
c^a = Autosomal Albinism

So far all of the studies have concluded that recessive white is the most dominant of the allelic mutations.

c/c^op = All White
c/c^re = All White colored eyes
c/c^a = All White with colored eyes
c/c^bt = I suspect it will produce all white birds aswell
