Got a couple of regular colored bobwhites (hatched in September, just a couple days old when I got them) and also hatched out a white bobwhite in my incubator last October. I know the males are supposed to have a white mask. Do they keep the mask all year, or does their coloring change in the winter? I'm thinking I might have 2 hens because they both have buff faces. BUT I also read somewhere that the males have a black lower mandible and on females it's lighter. If that's the case, I have one of each. I've seen them grooming each other, which is pretty cute. And I have no idea how to tell about the solid white one, other than looking underneath (and I've never had much luck with that method). None of them have laid any eggs so far.
Incidentally, the white bobwhite is oddly tame, for a bobwhite. S/he begs for food when I feed my Catalina macaw, who is in the next cage over. I would like to move the white bobwhite into the cage with the other two but not really sure what is the best way to go about that either.
Also, I have 2 Chinese Blue Breasted Quail that LUCKY LUCKY ME are also solid white. They cuddle and have never been aggressive toward each other but no eggs from them, yet, either.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
