The size they reach largely depends on what strain of bobwhites you have - jumbos, northern, butler, etc.

It's been awhile since I've raised them, but I'm thinking by 7 wks you could start seeing more white on the heads/chest of the males where the females stay more beige.

7 weeks seems early for me but I guess I'm not the best at that either. I've never been able to tell except by waiting for the white to come out but it seems like they are much older than 7 weeks.

Could very well be longer as it's been awhile since I've raised any bobwhites. I just remember we really couldn't determine sex until then.

yeah i know mine are the size of my adult coturnix and fly already i have 1 pure white 3 red tennesee and 1 georga giant and 1 golden red tennesee they live with 3 coturnix that hatched around when they did so they get along .

I read an article about sexing them using the barring pattern in their wing, Anybody got than link, I apparently have lost it.

PS I found it! also aging young birds.
