I have 4 hens in my backyard flock. They sleep in their coop at night. They free range in the back yard during the day. I have flower beds that border my back lawn. I'd like to confine the hens' foraging to the flowerbeds if possible. I tried stringing up fishing line (since it's almost invisible) between my low voltage lights which line the lawn/beds. But they just walked right over/under it.

What suggestions do you have for confining the hens to the flower bed and keep the out of the middle of my back yard? Any thoughts?

You might want to try some good old fashioned chicken wire stapled to some wooden stakes (if predators are not a problem). I know the chicken wire will interfere with the view of the flower beds a bit but if that's not an issue it's a low cost solution.

Funny, most people want to keep their chicken OUT of the flower beds!

That's what chicken wire is for, to contain chickens, in or out of whatever....but...you know they will tear up those flower beds right?

If they have been given free range thus far, you might have to make the chicken wire pretty high to keep them from flying over it.

Good luck!
