Boredom Busters?

Hey, my flock is cooped in because of the weather. I feel like they are SOOO bored! I tried giving them some treats and scraps more, but that only lasts so long. I was wondering if you had any ideas. I'm cheap, so I don't want to get anything fancy.

add junk, clutter it up. Birds can then get out of sight of other birds, which will reduce tension and pecking. Ladders, mini walls, platforms that birds can get under or on top. Pallets and cement blocks can make endless arrangements, you can change it up.

Adding wind breaks in the run will let them out of doors, which is much more healthy. A rubber made storage tote, on the side will work just fine for a few chickens. Scraps of plywood can be set across the prevailing wind, some hay on the floor of the run. I use an old set of shower doors, and they have a sun porch. Does not have to be air tight, just blocking the wind.

Too many runs that I see here are just an open rectangle, with no shelter from the wind, no additional shade, and total non use of the third dimension vertical space.

It will look more cluttered, but it will actually add to the usable space the birds have access too.

Here are a few ideas we do at times for our ladies. We have smeared peanut butter on long that has cracks in it. They love eating it and have to work to get the butter out of the cracks. Apples, cabbage & other veggies on stringers to peck at. Shoe box or similar size box with a few holes in it and treats inside.
