I have just woke up to find both my 1 week old ducklings dead :( :( :(

Can someone please explain how this can happen? They get cleaned daily, nothing had got to them, temperatures have been right, they were talking back to me only last night. I just don't get this. They were running around fine only 7 hours ago.

My first ducklings and they've gone, my babies. I'd do anything to get them back :(

Aww, sorry to hear about your losses :( I don't know what could be wrong with them! You sound like a very good owner cleaning out daily, letting them run around and all.

I had to clean them daily, I never knew 2 little ducklings could be so messy. I'd do anything to get them back. I really don't get this. I am so gutted, I miss them :( I feel like I'd have been able to understand more if it was one but it's both of them, I feel it must be my fault but nothing has changed so I don't know what I've done wrong :(

Sorry to hear you news. What temp were you keeping them? They still had the heat at night right? What were you feeding them? Medicated chick starter is very bad for them. Did they have plenty of water.

So sorry to hear about you ducklings. Will you get any new ones?

I already have 5 eggs in the incubator again as only 2 hatched and my plan was to keep 2 ducks and a drake. They were on normal chick feed as I knew about the medicated one being bad, vitamins in their water. I've been using http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.ph...duct_name=Brinsea+EcoGlow+Chick+Brooder+HD501 to keep them warm as I was worried about using a heat lamp, it was on the middle setting and has been on fully, they were in a 4ft x 2ft with that being one side and their food and drink being the other. I was using something like http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.ph...429&product_name=Chick+Drinker+-+1+Litre+K140 for their drink but it held 1.5l

Sorry to hear about your babies :(
When you bathed them, did you use any kind of detergent, soaps, etc? Did the water have a strong smell of chlorine?
I will be glad to send you some fertilized eggs if you need them :)

Where were you keeping them and what was the ambient temperature in there? I have found in the past that the ecoglow is sometimes not enough on it's own for the first week or so, especially in our climate. If they had been swimming and got chilled the ecoglow is not enough in my opinion to warm them sufficiently, I always use an additional heat lamp for this reason.

Water was fine, nothing in when they bathed. I live in the UK so getting eggs to me is a bit far :p Thanks though xx

I had them in a vivarium, which has 3 vents in it. The temperature felt fine, I did keep a thermometer under the Ecoglow at first but took it out when they were pooping it was about 32celcius under there. I also dried them with a towel after they had bathed before putting them back. I really loved them xx
