I saw once, "bottled water" or pop bottle type portable waterers. They were small, and would fit between between the gaps of 1 or so inch wire mess, and they were filled by a bottled water type bottle. I've been thinking these would work great and my birds would gain some coop space by replaceing their mason jar waterers, as these would hang outside their coops. Dose anyone know what I am talking about, and where to find them? I cant seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks! That is it. I knew I could count on you all! I was searching for water bottle waterer, and they are called soda pop bottle waterers. Very cool, Im gonna give them a try.

We got three of those valves and put one in the bottom of each juice container we bought for waterers. They can be hung by a wire and rotated as needed. That way we'd always have a thawed one during the winter and the valve would not be where the ice would start forming so the chickens had more time to drink before the whole thing froze. Now we just need to get them to use them instead of the traditional waterer that sits in the middle of the chicken house.

Thanks, I have been curious about the nipple style waters too. Do you have to do anything special to train your birds to start using it instead of the saucer?

I am just asking because, at our Co fair this year allot of the hutches had a community line running utilizing these tips, and although it was very hot, all the birds looked like they were thirsty. I was thinking that they just hadn't figure out how to get a drink?

Hi there-like those waterers on the aqua miser site, but don't like the price? Check out my byc page and do it yourself for a heck of a lot cheaper!! Just a thought!

Chickens figure out nipple waterers within hours. Newly hatched chicks will start pecking the end before they'll start pecking at a dish of water. It surprised me. All the adults I've shown them to have had it down by the next day. I also just got 5, 3week old bantam chicks and not having a free chick waterer stuck a bottle on for the time planning to get them a regular waterer by the end of the day just in case. About 2hours later I hear lots of banging and check on them to find they are all attacking the water bottle. By the next day they'd figured out how to peck the end and will drain a small bottle within hours of putting it in the brooder with little waste. I had to pull out a couple more bottles to keep them happy. I've had some chickens spend 6months or more with only rabbit bottles for water and haven't seen any dehydration or health issues and less spilled or dirtied and wasted water than using any open type waterer.
