I have read on this form that people use paper or something on the bottom of their bator. I would like to know what the best thing to use?

1/4" hardware cloth is safe and reliable. Similar gris in plastic would be fine too.

Don't cover the bottom with paper, you run the risk of severely affecting the humidity level, and the chicks don't need it.

I should have made my self more clear. I was talking about under the wire? I know about the wire I was thinking of the mess going on the bottom of the bator

You don't put anything under the wire. I have never used anything to lay the eggs on just the wire.

Some people do use the kitchen rubber shelving liner cut to size on top of the wiring to help the eggs not getting knocked around and say clean up is easier.
