Took DS to the critter place to get critter things and decided to get 100 crickets for the chickies! It was the funniest thing I have seen in a LOOOOOONG time.

I dumped the whole lot on the ground and it was a running buffet! The girls were going crazy I think they were scarfing them down before they even realized what they were. I mean what else is a chicken to do? You snooze, you loose... they did not wanna miss out on a snack just cause the identity of said snack was in question! A few crickets hightailed it under the 5 or so inch gap under the coop and BOB followed right behind, I SWEAR I have NEVER seen a chicken do a belly crawl before!

She was like those GI Joe types but faster, she was in hot pursuit. The crickets sure didn't last very long, but all in all, it was a great success. I was afraid that the crickets would get away and hide before the girls would get around to eating them, yeah..... RIGHT!

My kids love to find beetles/bugs/worms for the chicks... just to watch them run around and get them... and then watch them try to steal them from each other - love the worm tug of war!!

Oh, that is too cool! How old are they?

Mine are 7 weeks and I see on the bag of chick grit it says 10 weeks and up, so I am assuming I should hold off on the crunchy snack for a few more weeks...

The crickets are a great idea. I am totally going to have to try that.

Mine are 8 weeks old, the way I see it if they were in the "wild" with mamma they would be foraging for bugs and what not... but that's just me. I got the small/medium size ones too.
