Bovatec not okay for ducklings? Please HELP

Yeahh...I wish I had seen this post before giving the chick feed to my darling duckling...I feel so sad!! A few days back I rescued it from a cat's mouth, unscathed, then had planned to give it a full and satisfying life then this effing chick feed with Bovatec has screwed the whole thing up

I'm so sorry for your loss I hope you're alright I know i was very upset! I had 3 ducklings die before realizing the feed was what was causing the problem. It can be really hard to get good advice if people don't know about ducks like alot of pet stores and such don't have the specific knowledge and will just recommend what they think is good. I ended up doing a lot of research, since then I changed the feed to meat crumble for water fowl and put nutritional yeast into it for niacin because they need that. I use untreated pine shavings for the bedding and have a brooder heat plate. I've got 4 ducklings at the moment and they are all doing really well! I hope you don't give up on giving another duck a good life they are amazing pets

It's been a hard day I tell ya...haven't cried like this in years...he was my liddle buddy and came along at such the right time too....so freakin devastating.

24 hours ago I noticed he wasn't moving around like he usually was, then soon realised he didn't have strength to get off the ground and was really lethargic...then I found your thread, and quickly got him back onto chopped oats & mealworms, which he ate (and drank water) all day with my assistance, and was hoping he'd pull through.

It was when I checked on him this morning that I realised he is close to being gone when he could barely move his head...and within 10-15 minutes he breathed his last. Couldn't believe it...

But yeah, stoked you're new fellas are thriving! That's so cool! And thanks for sharing this crucial knowledge. Bless your heart

Don't worry I cried for so long too it was awful such innocent and adorable little things too so it's very sad! That is exactly what happened with all of mine they just stopped moving around and seemed really weak. I never switched to any other feed though like you I'm surprised he didn't come back to normal after you changed his food. How long was he on the chick starter for?

Innocent, adorable and so trusting....he trusted me to look after him and I failed him

He was probably only on it for like 24 hours?...didn't take much time at all. I am going to call the Pet Shop on the 3rd of Jan to let them know not to ever recommend it at all
