Hello all! I have a (probably silly) question... is this a Tom or hen??
My new neighbors have had this guy around their property and can’t take care of it. The previous owners did not have any birds and nobody around us raises them, so we aren’t quite sure where it came from. We were the only ones around to take it or GFP would have to euthanize it. I only have guinea fowl currently and have NO idea about turkeys, but plan to learn!
I’m reading a bunch about gendering them, but I have no idea how old it is which is complicating things. It has a beard, but I’m reading that some females do too. It’s got a “mohawk” of feathers, but I don’t know if that’s normal for both sexes at their age. I’m so confused, please help!

That is a tom.

What you think is a mohawk is only a thin line of feathers running up the back of its neck. The mohawk that hens have runs on top of the head too.

I can't tell from the photos what size the spurs are. If they are just a bit more than nubs, it is a yearling.

It would be stupid to "euthanize" it when processing him would provide a fine piece of meat.
