Well- think of it this way-
I have a black cochin roo, and a white cochin hen. All the chicks end up black.
But maybe...one of the chicks could have white babies in the future if bred to a white? Apparently the one black gene won't always trump- or you'd have all black chicks.

What did the chicks wind up looking like?

Well, a few of them turned out all completely black, another couple were dark with light columbian lacing around the neck, and another one was brownish. I sold them off before they were completely feathered so its hard to say, but the light brahma was coming out in several of them.
