I'm posting for a friend to see if any of you can say for sure if her chick is a pullet or cockerel.

She got the chick from a farm and was told it would be a brahma pullet. It's about seven weeks old.
We're having some doubts about those wattles and the lack of tail but I'm not very familiar with brahmas and I thought, since it's not a hatchery bird, it's possible that it's feathering more slowly than what I'm used to.

Any ideas?

The comb and wattles seem large for 7 weeks old, and slow feathering is a sign that the bird is a cockerel. The hackle feathers also seem to be getting pointy, so I think cockerel.

I vote for give it a few weeks and post new photos. Actually Brahmas are slow to develop. Is it bantam for large fowl Brahma?

It's quite a bit larger than her Faverolles chick, so definitely not a bantam. I don't know anything about the farm she got them from (she lives in a different state, I've never seen her chickens in person) so I guess there's the possibility too that it's mixed.

I've heard that about Brahmas, and my thoughts too were that it might be a little too early to know for sure, but I was hoping someone here might be more familiar with the breed and know what to look for. It was worth a shot anyway! I know the waiting game feels like forever when you were expecting one thing and think you might have another.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Since they're similar to Brahma, thought I'd post my rooster and hen. I'm going out on a limb and voting pullet. The 1st shot is of mom and her baby, the black one, who's about 2-3 months old there. The 2nd shot is the rooster who has a much more prominent tail, and the hen has a turned down tail, looking to me like your friend's chick. Ignore the barred rock - nasty thing. And that weird looking chicken in the middle. I don't know what that breed is :)
