Hey all, I just went out to check on my girls I got in January, and a dang raccoon dug under the side of the coop and killed my light brahma. The other 5 are fine. So here comes the electric fence. But I was really enjoying the brahma as she was growing and was getting really pretty. Would there be anyone around the Denver area that has a brahma pullet? Seems all the stores and hatcheries are out of them.

Just wanted to extend my sympathy for your loss. Keep an eye out for swaps or ads on Craigslist, it's possible one of the folks who bought a bunch of chicks thinking they would feed themselves will decide it's more work than they really want to do as the chicks get bigger. I would also suggest you consider buying two at a time, as introducing one new bird to an existing flock can be difficult and sometimes quite traumatic for bird and keeper alike.

Thanks for the advice. Right now, though, it seems any swaps are cancelled. I've introduced new birds to current flocks before. I was hoping to find a pullet so they were all around the same size, but my husband already said if I can't find any we can always do chicks next year. So sad. She was so pretty, but not too bright. She didn't tend to go into the coop to roost and would sit on the ground. My guess is once the raccoon got it's arm under it grabbed her. Man I hate raccoons.
