Brahma X Buckeye homogenized flock project

I'm coming to that realization myself :) I'm looking at Cackle Hatchery and Meyers as my only reasonably priced options. Do you have experience with or opinions on the quality of the Buckeyes from each of these hatcheries?
Show birds really aren't that expensive. I think that if you want a fast growing, large meat bird you definitely need to go to someone who breeds for it. I would recommend my mother's birds, but Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are not even close.

If you're willing to drive to Columbus I can give you the contact info for the breeder I got mine from. I've been very happy with their size and they're good layers too!

They look beautiful!
Another thing, breeder Buckeye roosters are gentlemen. But I knew someone who raised hatchery Buckeyes and she hated them because the roosters were mean!

Thanks for all the insight. I'm going to start with Hoovers, just because they are the easiest and fastest for me to acquire right now. I'll start looking around my region for some better breeding stock to add in later this year. (And I can always revisit my idea of adding in Brahma to get chonkier birds, if need be.)

How do you find their personalities? Are the roosters aggressive as another poster mentioned, or are they laid back like the breed is supposed to be?
I have never had a Buckeye rooster but all my hens have been very friendly while still being good foragers and great layers.
