View attachment 1115029 Hi, my name is Geniva. My husband and I are new to this. We ordered 6 brahmas around march. We love them. We really don't know anything about raising chickens, so that's why I'm here to learn. Any pros and cons will help! My husband is an electrician for a electricity power plant and we raised 4 kids and now have 6 grandkids. Really would like to know when will they start laying eggs?

Hi Geniva and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Whilst some breeds are a little later (and earlier) to laying, around 6 months is a general rule of thumb. Signs of impending lay include a reddening of face / wattles / comb, spending time checking out nest boxes and submissive squatting when you approach them.

More generally, here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

I see that you have started a thread on New Member Introductions already. I seem to remember responding to your earlier thread - here it is https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/brahmas.1193732/

If you look under my signature (below this message) you will see "Introduction to BYC at a glance" - written in blue. If you click that, hopefully it will help you navigate and post in the forums where you are mostly likely to get the most relevant replies.

I'm so lost! I don't do very well on the internet. Actually I hate the internet, lol. But I do need to learn more about these brahmas. Especially if I can feed them any fruits?

I am a tech failure but, I don't let that stop me. Brahmas are slow to develop, so I would imagine slower with laying also. You could check out the breed thread to learn more about them. Using the searchbox, is a pretty painless method of getting around this site.

Welcome to BYC. Brahmas are a lovely breed.

Don't worry, you'll soon get the hang of BYC - just takes a bit of practice. This link should give you a more comprehensive introduction to BYC and how to navigate - #4
