Greetings all! I am probably what you’d call a ‘pre-newbie’. I am only in the coop designing stages. I do want to get going ASAP though and would welcome any advice, especially what mistakes to avoid as a new chicken rearer. I live in rural Mexico, so I don't have to worry about any zoning laws or whatnot. I have many neighbors with chickens, one of which has been selling me delicious freshly laid eggs. She has agreed to help, but due to the language barrier, I am also doing my own research. I want to maximize the benefit of raising chickens, especially during these times - they may become my main source of nutrients soon..! I want to make sure that they’re happy and healthy. I already have learned a lot from this site, as well as others online, but it is also overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing coop structure and placement. I would like to start with about 6 hens, with room to grow my flock. I have no idea what breed they will be, or if I can even control that. Any tips (in any area) will be greatly appreciated. ¡Gracias!
Glad you joined.
