Hi all!

I excitedly picked up my new batch of chicks from a feed store tonight. I got them home and immediately noticed that my Black Copper Marans chick is lethargic. She’s also smaller than the other chicks, and since she arrived to the feed store in the previous shipment, I expect she’s about 5 days older than the others. She will drink when I dip her beak, and occasionally on her own after I dip her beak. But she hasn’t eaten that I can tell. I’ve gotten her to peck once or twice at a piece of chick starter in my hand, but that’s it. Her stool was yellow and liquidy, but her vent is clean.

I just want to get some sort of food into her. Any suggestions? I can’t get anything for her (I read in a bunch of threads about Nutri Drench?) until tomorrow night and I’m not confident she’ll make it that long. Any ideas to entice her to eat? Thanks!

Since you can't get nutri-drench until tomorrow, you can try to see if sugar water revives her. Mix1 teaspoon of sugar into one cup of water.

I think your chances of saving the chick might be higher if she had recently arrived at the feedstore. Because she is a week older yet smaller than your other younger chicks, she has not been eating much at all during her young life. Sometimes it doesn't matter how hard we try to save them, some chicks fail to thrive. Wishing you the best in your attempt to save your chick.
