I'm a total newbie to the chicken raising world, and am very excited to learn from all you veterans. I have a mixture of chicks in a brooder right now. My flock consists of (2x) Dominiques, (2x) Buff Orpingtons, (2x) Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, and (2x) unknown color ameraucanas.

I'm just starting to build my coop, and hope to have it ready just in time to move them outside once they have all their feathers.

Here's the 8 square foot brooder I made out of some scrap lumber I had lying around. I added a mini roosting bar and feed platform in an attempt to keep the line shavings out of the waterer... It helps... A little...

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your chicks :celebrate I love raising chicks I find it very rewarding and lots of fun. It's great when you see them grown up and become their own unique characters. The learning centre is a great place with lots of super articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. Here is the link if you have not already checked it out > https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck with your coop build and enjoy BYC :frow

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Cute little flock, you should have a colorful egg basket!

So very nice of you to join us! The BYC community is one of the best out there. I like the breeds you chose, you will have a varied egg basket indeed. You will soon find how addicting they are!

Love your little fluffy butts - they will be trying their wings before you know it. You may need a wire cover for the brooder. If they get out, they won't know the way back in.

So glad you joined the BYC flock.
