Hello. Our names are Thaine and Elaine. We got seven roosters just for eating ticks, and-heh, heh-two of them are hens. Oops. Had to immediately build another small pen for the hens, as they were getting the tar beat out of them by the big boys! That being done, I decided to look up and see if I might be able to remove the spurs of a couple of the worst offenders in the most humane way possible. YouTube has some very informative videos. I love anything to do with farm critters and all of the wonderful things that they can do for us. I don't feel that they are merely food; rather that there are many more things that animals can do for us. For example, I plan to teach our young Boer wether how to pull a sled in the winter, and a cart in the summer. I have discovered that chickens are great for eating ticks! Any other great facts that you can share with me?

There is very good information on BYC about removing spurs - they will grow back tho- so it's not a onetime deal.
