We are picking up our 4 Golden Buff hens today. I decided against chicks and found someone local with hens who are about to start laying.

We have an Eglu Omlet cube coop with an attached run. We hope to let them roam our yard, dogs and hawks could make that harder.

We are a homeschooling family with 4 children one in college and one with Down syndrome. She is super excited about the coop and is waiting for the “chicken eggs” to get here. We have two dogs not the best behaved but I have high hopes they can be trained to be nice or just stay inside. We also have fish, a hamster and two geckos. The hens will just round out the pet collection and keep us from ever taking a vacation.

I’m looking forward to learning more and hopefully keeping our hens safe and healthy.
