My husband has been wanting to get chickens for a few years, and finally talked me into it. We had a coop on the property, so I figured why not? We bought a variety of chicks and he snuck a naragansett turkey poult into the box. I thought it would be cool to have our own eggs....I had no idea how attached I would get to the little cheepers. They've got names and I'm scheming about how to get more of them :). They are so much fun - didn't know that birds had such personalities!

So our little flock has 2 blue cochins, 2 buff orpingtons, 1 black barred rock, 2 americaunas and a narragansett turkey. The chickens are all hens, but the turkey is still a mystery (hen/tom). They are all about 3 or so months old.

I have never had poutlry before - and this is all new to me. I'm learning so much and this forum has been a source of a ton of information for me so far - so I thought I should quit "lurking" and join up.

Looking forward to getting lots more good info and ideas from here, and chatting with people who love their birds (I think my friends and family are getting sick of hearing about what my chickens and turkey are doing lol).

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there that will keep you from making beginners' mistakes. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC! I have this feeling that once I have my chickens, I may become the crazy chicken lady instead of crazy cat lady!
