Yes, yes they are. I'm sad that my yard just won't accommodate any of the large breed chickens without sacrificing garden, but the wonderful purring of contented Silkies in my lap makes up for it.
 
Silkies were my first chickens and I've never forgot them. Birds are addicting so you'll never have enough but for now the silkies are a great! choice
