for those of you who make bread... I need info. Do you use a bread machine? Recipes? I want to know it all, and the cost to. Bread is to high and not that healthy. So give it to me straight

Kayla,

I have made bread both ways -- with and without a machine. I have a bread machine but it was bought 10 years ago so I'm not up on current pricing. I use it more to knead the bread than to actually bake the bread. However, when I had the time, I use to make 5 1-lb loaves all in a day. This, I did without the aid of a machine.

There are a lot of excellent bread recipes available. What type of bread does your family like? You may also want to consider making your own hamburger/hotdog buns as well. Those are really yummy. A regular loaf makes approximately 12 buns.

We just bought a Zojirushi bread maker a couple of weeks ago. It was expensive, but it makes some phenomenal bread (in a traditional loaf pan, too). It'll also do jams, jellies, stews, and meatloaf.

Some of the best bread I've ever had, though, at about .75 (or less) per BIG loaf. Plus, there's the benefit of knowing exactly what went into it.

WOW I didn't know. I was given a machine by my mom ( it's used). We eat white at the moment, but I would like to try more kinds. I know store bread has most of the nutrients taken out for the taste. Anything is good to me.

I use the bread machine to make the dough, and then bake it in the oven. It makes a great cooking project for young kids.

i got the cheapy at walmart for about 40 bucks. i don't cook the bread in it, i do it in the oven cause i only make one type of bread and i like it to be shaped like french bread or braided. price depends on what kind you make. for your traditional white breads it's cheaper to make your own. i also use mine to mix dough for cinnamon rolls and such. i've never tried bread by hand cause i'm afraid i'd mess it up.

I use the bread recipe from the hillbilly housewife website. I mix it in the bread machine and then I let it rise and then it goes in the oven. If you make alot of bread you can freeze it for later.
