I have three ND does. One is 6 years old and two are turning one year in May. I bought all three last summer. On March 24th a ND buck came to stay with us. He is with the girls full time. The first day my older doe, Holly, was acting like she was in heat and he, Copper, was doing his best to woo her. She was very receptive. I did witness a couple breedings, back arching and all.
Fast forward to April 21-22, four weeks later. Copper was again blubbering and trying to mount Holly but she kept moving away and was not interested at all. I think she may have had discharge but honestly can't remember. This past Sunday (April 29, five weeks after introduction) Copper was again chasing Holly and she was again not interested.
I know that a good way to tell if a breeding is successful is to see if a doe goes back in heat but these times just don't add up. In the past Holly has acted as if she were in heat (very vocal, tail wagging, and moody but no discharge) when the younger does were in heat. But I would assume a buck could tell the difference. The second weekend after he came he was chasing the younger does but I haven't witnessed him going after either of them since then. Any ideas on what is going on?
