I picked up a couple pullets from a friend of a friend. I was interested because I was told they were 5 month old red laced blue Wyandottes. While these birds are beautiful, they are not what I was expecting. Is the lighter one a blue laced red splash? And what would the coloring of the darker pullet be called? Is she a Speckled Sussex?! I am having trouble finding references for either. Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't have these but the first looks like a blue laced red wyandotte and the second hen is a speckled sussex

The lighter one may have been a project bird, or perhaps a poorly marked hatchery bird. You wouldn't use her for breeding to improve the breed, but you could hatch your own very pretty babies. And you're correct, the darker one is a speckeled sussex.

Thanks everyone! I'm really enjoying them...the SS have so much personality. I got two SS, (named Olympia and Columbia) and the one splash BLR, which my husband named "Annabelle". :)
Patty - I just might do that. I so enjoy photographing my girls. :)
Rachel - If I only had a hen, that sounds like a marvelous idea!
