Hey all, we've started raising chickens about a month ago and are having fun. This site looks like a great resource and I've already learned a lot just browsing through. But now, I've got my own questions.
So, we bought 5 chickens which were all supposed to be Buff Orpingtons. Well, 2 of them are quite a bit browner than the other 3 and I think they are a different breed (see picture 1). If so, what breed are they?
Also, the 2 brown ones have larger combs starting vs the lighter colored chicks. See picture 2 for the comb. Does this look like a rooster? They are 6 weeks old in this picture.

Thanks

3 blondes are buff Orpingtons your red ones could be new Hampshire.. they are definitely too light to be rhode island reds as RIR are very dark brown like a dirty rust. Too soon to tell for the red ones.. I can't really see the buff Orpingtons combs. I could tell my buffs apart because the roos developed tail feathers last. I had 3 and 1 chick was bursting with tail feathers. From what I've experienced in my chicks (and with the different breeds I've had) boys develope late so I could tell. And They are 2 Roos and a hen now all grown :)
Post another picture in a week or 2 or get a better pic of their combs.
