I wasn’t there when these were picked up from the feed store but my mother thought these were in. Bin of cuckoo and blue Marans. We definitely have cuckoo marans but these don’t look like the blue marans I’ve had before. Wondering if anyone knows what they are? They seem to have black/grey combs like an Ayam Cemani but their feathers are more dark blue than black.

Could be a feed store/hatchery mix up as we also ended up with three hampbars two of which were supposed to be welsummers.

I think it probably is a blue Marans or blue olive egger. Black skin on the face and comb happens sometimes with many blue and black varieties, and often it fades away as they mature.

You can check under the feathers to see if the skin on her body is also black, but I suspect it will be white.

If the chicken has black skin under the plumage, then she could be something like a Mystic Onyx or another melanistic hybrid.

Ooh that’s interesting! I hadn’t heard that/it didn’t happen with my other marans. I will definitely try to look at her skin later. The other one looks a bit more pink than black in the wattles so you’re probably right
