Breed mom and son...?

My ? is my male shichon got my shichon female pregnant then coupe weeks later he passed i heard it was ok to breed mom and son we would like to keep the dad's gene's going but only if it's safe for the female and son...if anyone can give me answers that would be great pups arent born yet so be awhile til breeding can begin....please need to know..

There was a study done on the pug breed in the UK. It showed that of the 10,000 pugs in the UK, their gene pool was the equivalent of only 50 different pugs. All 10, 000 of them were related. That can't be healthy. You would never breed a human mother and her son, would you? Dogs are no different. It can and does cause health issues. I think it's an unethical and taboo practice, no matter what professional breeders say.

I don't even advise breeding mother/son chickens together, let alone dogs.

Line breeding and inbreeding are used in the agriculture world a lot. You can improve multiple qualities in livestock when these methods are used properly.

Line breeding is discussed in the heritage fowl threads on this site.

The key is careful culling of the young stock to eliminate undesirable traits in the resulting offspring.

I am aware of that it's used a lot, and as I said before I think it's unethical. I guess I deviate from the norm a bit. I think if you breed unhealthy individuals, it's your fault you have to cull them, and it's your fault they're unhealthy in the first place. I do not want that kind of responsibility. I do my best to make sure my stock come from different lines, and I'm okay having mutts on my farm. Individuals who come from different lines or even different breeds tend to be much healthier in general. The pedigree world has been under a lot of criticism lately, and there have been many recent studies and documentaries made. They're all very interesting and informative.

What is a schichon? ???

The Shichon is a hybrid dog that is made up of a combination of two different purebreeds. It's a cross between the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu.

It's a made up word like all the other "designer" breeds.

Here I was thinking somebody couldn't spell the word 'chicken'. That makes me not want to be a part of this discussion at all.....
