Hello all!! I just got a new hen sold to me as a “barnyard mixed” hen who was sold to her as an “Olive/Easter Egger”. I’d like a better idea if I could:

An olive egger is a mix of a blue egg layer and a dark brown egg layer. Some people cross brown egg layers with (the result of a blue egg layer X brown egg layer) an olive egger to make a darker laying OE. A example of an OE is an ameraucana (blue egg) over a maran (dark brown egg).
Yours has feathered legs so it’s probably a maran mix. They are not APA recognized.

An Easter Egger is an Ameraucana mix, they can lay a variation of different colors. They have clean legs and are very sweet. They are not APA recognized.

The lady I bought from said she laid turquoise coloured eggs, is 7 months and gone broody twice in 5 weeks lol. My RIR are 5 months and won’t go broody lol

Thought once I brought her home, tho showing broody characteristics, has not sat on the nest yet 😓💩

she is also very flighty, is this normal? Mine aren’t like that probably because I hand raised them all.....

this information is most helpful! I did not think of the Maran when I was guessing breed, thank you muchly!!

It could be an EE mix since shes laying turquoise eggs. My OE is also super flighty. And she’s really young to have gone broody 2 times.

Do you have any more questions? I am happy to help!!

when researching this breed, I came across to much information and feel like a fool asking but.... what is this breeds hardiness, weather wise? And temperament?

while broody I understand that temperaments change however, I’d like to understand her better to help her become more comfortable with me, my kids, hubby, and the rest of the flock... I was very surprised that she held her own against my rather large roosters (who are not accessible so I did not just throw her in with my males) in comparison. She did a really cute, what I call, ‘turkey dance’ my hubby explained as the ‘broody dance’. At her size and being the first time here I expected a way different reaction. She made herself so pretty, the silvery feathers really got a showing when she did that.
