Breed Question

We are new to raising chickens. We love them and would like to have more. We have a Brown or Black ( ? we don't know our breeds very well ) Leghorn rooster and mostly Red Sex Link hens ( we have one Brown or Black Leghorn hen). What can we expect if we let one of our hens brood ?

Hello and Welcome To BYC! The mixes should be good layers of light brown eggs. But Leghorns and Sex Links are non-broody breeds, they very very seldom will go broody, you might consider getting an incubator or a couple of hens of a more broody breed if you want chicks. Great, thanks! We are going out and taking pictures right now ! We know that the rooster is a Leghorn. At first when we were looking at pictures of different breeds we thought he may be a Welsummer but he has white ear lobes, so he is definitely a Leghorn. We thought the hens were New Hampshire Reds until we read about Red Sex Links. We bought them at Tractor Supply and that (New Hampshire Reds) was one of the breeds that was on the list they had and it most closely matched their appearance.

As Kelsie2290 said, Leghorns and sex links are not known for being broody (although on rare occasions it happens). If they do breed, your offspring will be mostly white, probably with some reddish flecks, and they should be good layers of very light brown or cream colored eggs.
