I've seen a couple of people getting speckled sussex chicks that look like this. Wonder what's going on.

Here's my 2 SS when I got them.

Yes, it is strange. I have Speckled Sussex, but they looked exactly as your babies at a few days old. Like chipmunks. But not like my "mystery " chick that I posted here🤔
 
Probably Jubilee Orpington. Although the pattern of Speckled Sussex and Jubilee Orpingtons are similar, they are on different base genes in the United States. Jubilee chicks look just like her when young, while Speckled Sussex have the defined eyeliner and "chipmunk" chick down.
 
Updated pictures of my girl. Is she a Jubilee Orpington?
