The one in back is a mutt, likely with some Cuckoo Marans in her. Or she's pure Cuckoo Marans.

Are rose combs desired on RIR? I would LOVE to have an entire flock of RIRs with rose combs instead of single - they are by far my best layers, but the boys have a hard time not loosing their combs in the winter time to frost bite. He is a handsome boy, by the way, such beautiful dark, dark red feathers!

Sorry to distract from your original question - I don't know what that hen is.

Rhode Island Reds come in two forms - rose comb and single comb.

Rose combed types are very rare, most of them still of good quality, especially the LF ones,

Single combed RIR's sadly most of them are your typical production bird.
