Those are called spurs. They are a very normal part of chicken anatomy.

White Wyandotte bantams. The long talon, known as a spur, is common, but it would probably be safer for the bird/other birds if it was shorter.

You can clip them just like you would with a dog or cat.

Judging by the spur size, the male is over a year old (and probably closer to 2 years old). I'm not as sure on the female, but she is almost certainly over 6 months old.
