southern states 16% breeder / layer is that enough or needs to be more for coturnix . thanks thomas1950,

You will need something with 24% to 28% protein for quail. Layer feed is not good to feed males. Too much calcium.

i find that 28% protein is best to use, i have a crumble, i also feed it to the quail chicks , but i blender it up like powder. for about a week. i find they seem to mature quicker with the higher protein food.
