I am a breeder of the bantam version.

I plan on breeding them this spring. I have two roos and two hens. I also have about 10 eggs in the bator which should start hatching early Jan. I hope to be full swing by the spring and pick up some hens at the Stockton show to increase the gene pool

I do also. So far for this spring I have 3 roosters that I'm happy with, And 17 hens. Well see if I stay happy with them

I have a mix of several lines. I hatched out 50 or so chicks of my own this year to improve on my birds. I also added some Foley lines. I purchased SLWs from the Foleys as well and after having them I've realized by looking at quality SLWs how far the BLRW has to go for improvement. I really like wyandottes a perfect backyard chicken!

Gomes Bantams - Do you have any photos of your birds? I've been thinking maybe I could get a couple bantams:p - how do they do for egg laying?

MyPetChicken.com, as far as anyone can tell, is a drop-shipper of Meyer Hatchery poultry. Meyer poultry ships healthy and lays well. I have no idea what the incidence of internal laying and peritonitis is like as my hens are just now getting to that point in their lives. You will likely not be able to show anything you receive from Meyer, but they will probably be healthy chicks and will lay a lot of eggs through their second year. Mine have slowed considerably since that point.

That said, the hatching eggs are likely to come directly from breeders that Meyer, or maybe even MPC independently, has contracts with. There is no telling who these breeders are, the conditions their birds live in or their health, certifications, etc. You take a big risk buying from a company who contracts to independents, and they do not guarantee the product because of the nature of the product. If you ordered 4 of each breed, it might be the case that the eggs have been shipped to MPC, mixed and matched and then shipped to you. This further reduces the likelihood of hatching.

If you can afford to buy eggs from a breeder with known reputation here, do so. Look on the hatching eggs boards for the breeds you want, or find someone in your region that sells the birds you're looking for. Breeders selling directly often include extra eggs if possible to account for losses in shipping or fertility. I have no idea if MPC sends extras.

I bought some BLRWs from the Foleys last year. They are just starting to lay, and I am planning on selling eggs from them in the spring. I will also consider hatching chicks also.
