Breeding a show quality Silkie with a Silkie from feed store ?0

It would produce a pet quality bird with many of the faults of the lower quality parent. If you have any intention of showing, start with the best stock available.

What is your goal? If you have intentions of showing in all likelihood it will be a very, very long time before anything even places. Save time, frustration and yes even money by purchasing the highest quality affordable stock. This doesn't mean buying show stock but perhaps stock that carry the potential genetics to produce winners. Then its a matter of time and hatching everything that hits the ground. But having winner stock is by no means a guarantee they won't produce a lot of ugly offspring either.

If you're doing it as a project first read about inbreeding, line breeding etc. Get a handle on that and have fun.

I just want friendly silkies. Not sure about showing yet. MI had one from tractor supply then I bought 4 show quality babies this April that of course All turned out to be boys. :( . I couldn’t believe the personality difference between them. Even though the s.q. Birds are all boys they are so much calmer friendlier than the tractor supply bird. I just hatched some I bought online I thought would be s.q. But clearly are not.

I was about to tell you that tractor supply silkies won't be tame. Look to buy some nice quality hens to breed with your roosters. Best of luck.

Cheers
