Every morning, when I let my ducks out for the day, I like to observe how the interact with one another.

This morning after I let them out and they did their usual running around, flapping wings, happy dance, two of the females started doing the following: first they stretched their heads up as high as they could go then it looked like they were nibbling at thin air. Then, all the other ducks started doing the same thing. this went on for about 10 minutes then they went about their usual routine.

These are muscovy ducks, anyone know what this is about, thanks!

I don't have muscovies, but that certainly sounds like a breeding ritual to me.

I've seen my drakes do that, i swear i read something about it somewhere but cannot recall what it said. Breeding, i don't think so... i have bred mine on occasion, actually i'll re-phrase they breed themselves on occasion lol and they do this chirping and head bobbing to each other when there trying to take that route.

Do you have Storey's guide to ducks? He has some good info on breeding.
