i have two red cochins and since its a newer color, i'm still having problems with black showing up in the undercoat and in some of my pullets wing feathers. any ideas on what colors to mix in to get the black out??

i have pics if need be of my cochins

The black under color is caused by the E locus gene in your birds. In order to establish a reddish under color, you will have to produce birds that have two wheaten genes at the E locus. If you can find a good buff bird ( good under color) breed the birds to the buff. In the first generation select for undercolor, red color and least amount of black in the wings and tail and breed the siblings. You should get some birds you want in the next generation; that is if you hatch enough eggs.
