Breeding Cages and roosting options

So i am looking to build breeding cages to selectively produce chicks which are true to standards rather than having all my chickens bunched into a main coop.
What would you advise be a suitable size for a breeding cage for around 3 chickens (1 rooster + 2 hens)
Also does there need to be a separate roosting bar or can they stay in the cage and sleep on the floor of the cage in a small coop i can make within the cage ?

Please share your thoughts and designs.

Should design much the same as for a flock.
You know it takes ~4 weeks to clear a hen of sperm from an 'unwanted' sire?
