Im wondering if anyone with a small group of chickens breeds crickets for them.. Its soo funny watching them chase the crickets around the yard.. The down side is they can easily eat 50 crickets in a mater if minutes and those 50 crickets cost half as much as their 20lb bag of feed.. a little over $5.00

Does anyone have any tips or links to sites that have good info, maybe a backyard crickets forum??

Ive gathered alot of info from just google but a forum would be nice for those random off the wall questions.

Ive read that chicken laying mash is the best food for crickets and I alwys have a powder at the bottom of the feeder which is all mashed up and perfect for the crickets.. I would normally throw this dust away but if it can be recycled info cricket food and they can get their reproduction going its more chicken food in the end..

wow thats insaine.. I put some lettuce in the tank last night, they did seem to eat more of it than anything else..

I grow Black Soldier Fly Larvae. The chickens go nuts over them! I highly recommend them. They're easy and cheap to grow. They eat all sorts of yucky stuff you'd never feed your chickens and them some. They're high in protein and calcium.

Here's a link: http://blacksoldierflyblog.com/black-soldier-fly-project/ Scroll down and look to the right you'll see a video of a cute little girl feeding the larvae to some chickens. I purchased the BioPod but I've seen homemade containers on the internet.
