I have a project in mind for breeding a Golden Cuckoo Marans with a Belgian/Mechels/Malines. What is a Malines you may ask? Well, its a rare meat bird from the Belgian area of France. It has very fine barrings and hackles of gray and black on the rooster and the same but darker markings on the hen. The taste of the Malines is disputed to be the best in the world by famous French gormet's. Anyhow, The intent is to add the gold colorings of the marans into the mix and create a repeatable new breed with the gold coloring in its hackles. Any color genetics experts out there have an answer to what will develop besides just meat and eggs?:p

Following this out of interest. We have black copper marans and white and cuckoo malines. Is there an advantage to a cross?
