Breeding my americas

Hey everyone, I've been working on pairing up my americas so I can start producing that breed.... I was thinking about building there separate pen just for them two and have questions about how should i go about it.... When she starts laying the eggs I know they really don't sit unless there's a abundance of eggs. How long can I leave the eggs in the coop before they go bad? And should i get some fake eggs? I'm new to all of it and will take any advice I can get.

Even if you have an abundance of eggs your hen may not sit. The biological urge to sit on eggs "broodiness" has been bred out of alot of breeds. Personally I wouldn't leave eggs in the coop at all until you're sure your hen will indeed go broody and set.Broody behavior is apparent with just a few eggs or even none at all. I absolutely would not pen a single hen with a rooster if that's the plan he will mate her till she's miserable. Safest bet if you want to hatch and aren't familiar with broody hens is just to use an incubator. Good luck

I got couple of skilly hens for brooding. I did read up on the chickens not being able to brooding.

I wouldn't go more than a week maximum. If you're going to use silkies anyway you could bring your eggs inside so temperatures don't do too much harm.That's the big problem with just leaving them out there, well that and it's going to draw stuff that eats eggs.
